george, what are the details? >> that's right, raj, what a scary moment for the woman. attacked in her bedroom by four men. she agreed to talk with us only if we hid her identity. >> i fell asleep watching a movie and woke up to four men standing around the bed. two on each side and one of them said, shh don't say anything, so i started to scream at the top of my lungs and they were trying to grab me. one of them put the pillow over my face and put me on my stomach and said, don't look at us. >> no one can hear this mother screaming in this quite neighborhood. >> they were going through things in the meantime, and the drawers and closets and all. and i would not stop screaming. another man came around the bed fast and he was angry that i would not stop screaming and he hit me really hard. three times in the face.

number of home break ins. so lock your doors and windows t suspect sketches are almost finished and they expect to release them sometime tomorrow. nbc bay area news. >> thank you, george. new tonight at 11:00, a cello worth thousands of dollars are stolen. and the mystery is an attractive couple captured on camera. they walk in and walk out with an expensive instrument belonging to a talented young musician. we are live with more of the heist. >> san francisco police say that couple stole the cello out of the building on sunday when i was open for a concert. the instrument is worth thousands of dollars. but to the 23-year-old who played it every day for ten years, it's priceless. >> i'm on my cello anywhere from four to eight, sometimes ten

hours a day. every day. >> adam young has not played his cello since sunday when someone stole it from the conservatoryo music. this is young playing the cello, he has been making music with the cello for ten years, the instrument is worth thousands of dollars but for young it's about more than money, he feels that someone stole part of him. >> it's priceless to me. it's the object that encompasses my entire soul. >> police released surveillance video of a couple searching the building sunday when it was open for a concert. >> they were casing the school, going through classrooms and going through lockers and trying to find one unlocked. they found the victim's cello and stole it. >> he put the cello in his

unlocked locker at 2:30 and when he returned his locker was empty. >> there's such an empty feeling now, because criminals came here and went through my stuff and took my most valuable possess n possession. >> these thieves took handwritten music that he composed and had in the case. the music and the cello cannot be replaced. >> it does not have a monetary value to me, i need it back. >> there's a reward for the safe return of the cello and the police are saying that the thieves can return it with no questions asked to a place like saint mary's. >> also caught on tape, but not yet by police, this video shows a burglary, middle of the day, private security cameras, capture the thief entering the

home through the rear sliding glass door that was estimaleft unlocked. well the bay area's biggest city suddenly searching for a new police chief and tonight, a series of high level meetings in which the city council is searching for the answer to their crime problems. >> well, first of all, san jose needs to find a new police chief by january 31st. secondly, there needs to be a coming together between city council members and the police union. because the people who live and work here are concerned about their safety. >> august was a wakeup call for violent crime in san jose, chief chris moore sent in his resignation and it was a wakeup call for the people who live here. >> i thought the timing for that was interesting.

considering the up tick that you are talking about. >> we are talking about an up tick in crimes in a city that was known as the safest city. >> i'm angry at the people running the city that are not listening. >> a public safety meeting is planned at the ymca, but it was planned months before chief moore resigned. >> he is frustrated and so are the officers. >> and that frustration is being felt by those who are feeling the effects of crime. >> i got a bicycle stolen out of the van parked in front of my home. it was shocking and made me angry. >> that anger spilled over to the city council meeting. >> we do not know what the number will be for homicides this year. they are a wear that violence is on the rise in san jose and something needs to be done to

stop it. >> the concerns that some of the people have in some of the areas have been deteriorating with crime and gang violence. for that reason, i'm here tonight. >> san jose has become a magnet for the criminal and the question really concerns now, does the current police department have the ability to handle the crisis based upon the r resources it has available. >> i did have a chance to talk with chief moore tonight and he said that he had no plans for the next big job. i talked to council members and they said they have no knowledge of a short list, they say a national search is on. reporting live, nbc bay area news. >> starting from scratch tonight berkley has to again start looking for a new superintendent of schools. edmond heatley the only person in the running has backed out over the issue of gay marriage.

a memo surfaced that showed he supported proposition 8. the state ban on gay marriage, in the wake of all the publicity it would have been difficult for him to do a good job, and he believes heatley agrees. >> he may have fell off the train. that's the latest theory about what happened to a man who vanished while on an amtrak. a passenger saw him near the door of the train at 10:00, and later another passenger found the door open. he may have gotten up to stretch. the friends and family are extending the search along the amtrak line. authorities need your help in identifying a man in a wheelchair that died to tracks three months ago. they just released these sketches showing the man as john

okay, let's get a checkup of the forecast. he has interesting numbers. >> they are, looks more like late october here, past couple of days numbers in the 70s and we should be in the 80s. concourt 77 and weather will be cold tonight, 40s in the north bay. let's go to the live hd sky camera network and we do not have too much fog here, but it's building up near the bay and the coast line. while the city is clear right now, we will have the fog to deal with in the morning hours. the next 48 hours, this storm system system is has barely moved. the upper level of low appreciate pressure is slow moving. by saturday and sunday, it will finally start to move on out of

here. and it will have warmer air inland, not everyone will be totally cold. but it will help to keep our temperatures below the seasonal averages. it will kick up the wind as the system sits off shore. 70s by the bay. and 70s inland and then a few sparse 80s expected in the extreme easteast and in the south bay. we have low clouds in the north bay, extensive coverage of fog in the coast line, and even clouds back in the east bay, and it will be one of those days by 11:00, we will have a slow burn off by the afternoon, we expect the sun to come back out. coldest weather, that 49 in concord, could get close to setting a new record. we are anticipating, again, 49, and that old record was set back in 2001.
